Sometimes we have these amazing ideas in our heads, sometimes those ideas fall flat on their faces. Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands and wing it. Maybe you breakdown and text your sister 50 times about what to do, maybe your sister is pregnant & can’t deal with your insanity.

Are you going to adopt this trend? Wait, before you answer forget the all those dreaded 90’s memories that Carrie Bradshaw and Monica from our fav 90’s sitcoms wore. Okay! Now? You feel better about it? Well I have a few good reasons to try and persuade you that these aren’t the worst thing to hit the fashion world. I look forward to their discomfort and the click-clack sound that they will indubitably make when I walk, well sort of. I anticipate wearing them with denim cut offs this summer and with white skinny pants and also maybe with dresses or maybe not I’m more of a ‘obnoxiously short skirt kinda girl’.
Either way I’ve got myself a really nice white leather pair, hoping to grow my collection as summer rolls around…
Here’s a few ways to rock this look effortlessly, either pretty summer frocks while you sip on margaritas on the bay or a cool, casual Saturday afternoon outfit to Neighbourgoods. I definitely think you should cop this look, what do you think?
Day 2 of my prints challenge
I was raised in a ‘township’ in the west part of Johannesburg growing up the style of the youth was very distinct and to some degree it set them apart & gave them a sense of belonging. I’m part of what the call the ‘Born Free Generation’ it represents true freedom of expression with a highly colourful personality. It’s punk meets African high street. It is continentally inspired and makes reference to numerous African tribes for key inspiration. This shift dress is an easy everyday dress mostly used for workwear but I styled it to be a casual easy to wear outfit.

Over the next 3-days I’m doing a traditional african prints challenging by wearing them my own way. Each day I will feature a different print & style. South Africa includes a variety of cultures & ethnicities, these prints are colourful & unique to specific groups. As a country we’ve just celebrated 20 years of freedom last month & we’ve progressed in many different ways even though we still have a long way to go in certain aspects, our style has evolved tremendously. I love in Johannesburg the economic hub of SA, it’s a melting pot of cultures & people. This week we will be voting & it’s a quite a talking point since the 1994 elections that brought our country into a democratic government headed by the late Nelson Mandela. It’s a historic week for us and I’ll be celebrating with my posts showcasing the beautiful city & the modern women who live in it. The garments I’m wearing are supplied by Burgundyfly, an exclusively South African designers boutique focused on the modern women living in the concrete jungle which is why their designs resonate with me.
